Art History major here, art is literally _the_ most accessible form of human expression that's ever existed.
We have remains of mammoth bone huts where someone decorated the floor with a slightly diffierent color of dirt. We have paintings on cave walls from when all people had was mud, water, and their bare hands. We have hand-made pots and sculptures made with worse quality clay than the stuff we give to preschoolers and they still look as gorgeous as the day they were made.
Are AI bros really so financially destitute that even dirt and water is out of their budget? Seems a bit paradoxical, considering how much the computer they type on typically costs. If they saw art made by cavemen and children under the age of five, would they still consider their art "gatekeeping"? Last I checked, finger-painting is much more accessible than a monthly subscription service for a program that doesn't even work.
To me, the "gatekeeping" excuse is just them admitting they have less creativity than neolithic people of the past and literal children of the present.
