Still kind of wrapping my head around all of the implications, but the main one at the moment imo, is the fact that theres a section in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that wants to prohibit states from enacting or enforcing any laws limiting or regulating how AI will be used. Theres also the potential for centralized power to end up funneled to just a couple of tech corporations that could shape or decide what information is disseminated and what isn't, everyone using AI to run aspects of businesses, government agencies, and daily life would basically be directly influenced by these same tech companies. More so than they already do now.
Then the fact they are already implementing some stuff with the State Department that scans social media and reports any speech or "suspected" extremism support (which in theory I get, but wait until it comes down to anyone that ever made a joke about being anti-gov) and, I'm assuming on this part, reports or flags it to back to the state dept so they can decide whether to revoke visas. These nifty little programs we already have are kind of impressive in just how much they can do and how fast they do it, and that's only what is *publicly* available. Theres also the ridiculous power and water consumption these new server farms or data centers will require. More features or advanced LLM's will all be subscription based or tiered computing levels (more separation of rich and poor) will likely be enacted sooner rather than later.
As far as entry level white-collar jobs, those are on the chopping block already. Microsoft laid off around 6,000 people back in May. The other big tech firms are also looking to unload their workforces and replace with automation while putting more and more resources towards AI and cloud computing. Learn a skilled trade. Someone still has to build all these new data centers for our future AI overlords so they can get to overlordin' all over us.
