The car should bounce a laser off vehicles directly in front, to gauge distance and scale more accurately. So it can tell the difference between a distant car or a close motorcycle.
Would be an expensive recall for Tesla, Hardware installation, of laser and sensor, and software rewrites if not outright ecu replacement..but if this keeps happening, a necessary one.
Perhaps someday, all road vehicles will be equipped with tracking transponders,that relate heading, speed, and location to vehicles within relevant proximity.This would be fed into the navigation algorithms
Problem is, computers glitch out from time to time.One tiny electric charge where there should be none, and it could lead to a cascade of error within the computer.
So you need a democracy of onboard ECUs or CPUs, which are located in different locales on the car, to avoid them suffering from the same phenomenon, simultaneously positing the same data, if one glitches out of seven, due to some random static coming from the frame or whatever, it is ignored, and the other six carry on with the operating of the vehicle.
Or you could just drive the darn car yourself.
