I agree with that 32 hour work week, or even less. I think as AI and robots replace menial jobs, humans will not loose their humanity, but will rather focus on the more complex and "human" things that AIs are unable to do.
It may come with hurdles, and corporate exploitation, but in the long run, human capital has been increasingly valuable, and that trend - although changing in meaning - I believe in. Investing in this human capital to high levels benefits society most, as AI won't be able to replace such for longer or forever.
As to manufacturing in the nation... I originally thought Trump was being stupid, as in the past labor in the U.S. has been too expensive for it to be feasible, but AIs may solve this problem, of course without any of the job creations promised.
We'll find new jobs... or something else to do... because our brains are still better and more adaptive than AIs at thinking deeply and "humanly".
