The problem is that these people who are building AIs never worked on engineering problems. They don't know how complicated these things can get. They have been working on research and math problems their whole life. At this point, AI is not gonna take away any software jobs because it is not reliable at all. However, I do believe that maybe in 10 years it might get to a stage where it's as smart as the smartest entry level engineer. Even then, I believe hiring humans will be cheaper than using an AI.
