What if the catastrophizing about AI and AI researchers looking like they’ve seen a ghost is a form of AI psychosis? Seeing a machine manipulate language day in and day out, and then your own mind inventing a story about it being more powerful than it is, and then continually being reinforced by falsely interpreting AI appearance, could certainly lead to a form of psychosis where you are convinced that you created a super intelligence that might take over the world.
