Agreed. I’ve met a few people in my life who genuinely felt they weren’t good at art, that they sucked at it and could never get better, and by god it lit a fire under my ass to help them. A guy in one of my classes, a business major, said he struggled, so I suggested he make fake logos, using some of his knowledge on what would pop more. He felt a lot more comfortable and made some solid pieces. A lass I met said she didn’t know how to draw people, so she didn’t want to draw at all. I asked her what she did knew how to draw, and try that, and keep adding bits and pieces that are new. After a few months, she showed me a piece depicting a woman with a dragon riding into battle, and it was really dope! A lot of people are given terrible intros to art, I feel, cause it’s not about being “good”, it’s about expressing yourself, and that’s where AI loses the plot (along with a fair amount of art classes, but that’s a whole other rant). AI can’t express itself, it can’t add little quirks cause that’s what they liked, AI follows an algorithm, leading to pieces that may seem appealing on first blush, but loses that integral expression that gives art its substance. I think that’s where AI people are completely disconnected from artists; AI people want “good” results, and they feel they can’t do it. Artists don’t care about good results, they care about what they want to show. Two different angles, leading to completely different results, and AI bros being so bitter about it that they take their frustration out on artists who just want to share their work, and not have it be scraped.
