When people, like Neil here, say AI is going to take jobs but then new jobs will be created from it, why don't they consider that those jobs can also be taken by AI? That's the thing with AI. It's general purpose even without AGI. It's not like a robot designed for automating a single thing. It will eventually be able to automate basically EVERYTHING that people are doing with computers. Including AI development. People would only be needed for menial physical jobs. Until those jobs are replaced by robots, designed by AI. This is the exponential trajectory I see, and I don't see why Neil doesn't see it. So the question is, can society actually deal with all that joblessness? UBI? Central planning? Are we just going to bumble our way through until unemployment skyrockets and forces the issue?
