@26:00 - I really hate the argument for UBI. UBI basically makes a "Permanent Underclass." 1. It Sets a Literal 'Slave Salary' There is a profound difference between existing and living. UBI is designed to keep you existing, it provides enough calories to keep you breathing and a roof over your head to keep you out of the way. But living requires autonomy, upward mobility, vacations, hobbies, and the ability to build a better life for yourself. If there are no jobs available to supplement your income, UBI legally and structurally locks you into a permanent underclass. You are given an allowance to exist, but denied the means to live. 2. It Kills the Mechanism for Upward Mobility The fundamental promise of human effort is that if you work hard and gain skills, you can improve your lot in life. UBI in a post-labor economy destroys that. You will never earn more money than the UBI allows, and you can never afford to do anything outside the exact dollar amount the government assigns you. Unless a robust job market exists alongside it, which AI threatens to destroy in this conversation, you are trapped at the exact financial tier you were handed on day one. 3. It Replaces Purpose with Zero-Sum Games Humans are biologically wired to need a 'power process', the need to struggle, overcome challenges, and contribute to the group. If the government pays you to simply sit at home because a machine can do your job better, human psychology deteriorates. Without the ability to earn more through value creation, people will inevitably turn to zero-sum games, like crypto gambling or digital escapism (video games and VR), just to simulate the feeling of progress and achievement that reality no longer offers them. Ultimately, paying people to stay out of the way is not a utopia. It is the permanent sedation of the human spirit."
