So much to unpack here, but the idea that only using cameras is like having hands tied behind your back is ridiculous. Millions of human drivers only have "cameras" and "microphones" and use visual and audio cues + intelligence and experience to safely navigate the world much more effectively than even the most sensor-clad robotaxi. In fact, there are so many "edge cases" driving around where there is nothing to directly sense but that _require_ experience, critical thinking ability, and _empathy_ to effectively deal with. The situation with the cat is one prime example. Since we have "theory of mind", we either would have been paying attention to the cat or the woman and easily have realized there was something happening outside of our " sensors' " ability to detect.
