Nobody reads EULAs anymore.. Most artists don't know /don't care to read what they signed or agreed to when they use a site like Artstation and similar.. Wherever they upload their images nowadays there's a cause in the EULA saying that as long as the content is stored on the their external server, it can be used to train AI models. Most companies out there make a huge amout of money out of it, but they keyword is that they do this legally. It's not an ideal situation, but to call this theft is downright a lie or incompetence.. Also calling AI generative tools as "just something to quicken process" shows limited knowledge.. I think they are specifically not good for that, since the understanding of the text prompt is always an issue. You normally need to spend a lot more time to make something useful. IF you have the money, getting to where you want to go is easier with a traditional artist.. There are plenty of other uses too, including reference gathering.. Faster and more precise than google. It is not good for using it on most things directly, but it's prefectly fine to gather a specific reference or variations. It's not as good as an artist doing their mindtrick, but it's prefectly usable for those with less of an artist skill, people who just want a quick sketch of something or put their ideas into a picture but never had a education / talent in art. Just because someone can't draw that doesn't mean that they should stick to peasant life and farming.. Here's this tool, that can be used to quickly and easily visualize ideas, quickly create disposable, non-copyrightable images like emotes for streamers (instead of paying to a scammer to do the same) or make some ideas for an image frame or thumbnail decor.. It's frustrating as an artist to see that they cannot do ANYTHING about this. AI image generators are here to stay and evolve, literally nobody can do anything about it, and you can be as bitter about it as you want, litereally nothing will change, since corporations already did the buy-in to the tech and will expoit it even more than they expoited actual artists.. AI generators already has F U money, to fend off any and all lawsuits.. No matter how much you want to believe that it's not competitive with actual art, the thing is, you already lost that battle.. When I look at my artists friends on twatter, I see they have comissions open for 100-200 USD / picture, and you can get Midjourney, unlimited fast generations for what 20? Most people are not made of money. Indie game studios with 0 budget will always choose AI generation.. Corporations will always choose AI generation, because it's cheaper than paying anyone, or listend to their bullshit complains all day.. And the AI generators will always be the poor man's free art.. Don't like it, don't use it, of course, nothing wrong with that. But people gotta eat. It's not a glorious time to be a traditional artist.. Luckily from what I see, traditional art will not go away. The transition is, not unlike how photoshop changed traditional drawing and digital. Whoever is preaching that AI Art is the future probably doesn't see the full picture either.. For the moment at least, it's nothing more than referencing tool and quick disposable image maker, but as models improve, promt understanding and follow improves, so does all the argument against AI image generation disappears.. First it was, look it's ugly.. Then it was, look it has 6 fingers! , then it will be look, I wrote a 10 line promt and still didn't make what I want.. Then it will be, just a few people who still remember why there was any opposition..
