My only issue with a lot of these discussion is they talk about with such certainty on timelines of when AI will do this but they rarely talk about infrastructure. I work in construction, data centres are being built yes but our current hardware is struggling to keep up with demand. There are ways to mediate this by finding a way to have ai use less energy but break through like this also take a lot of time and there are limited to resources. The lithium battery is a good example of this, they said for years how the lithium battery would struggle to code with the growing hardware needs and said for years that they need to find a solution… they are still trying to find one. That isn’t to say it’s impossible but it’s a lot more complicated than people realise and while AI will evolve it will still be limited by its data infrastructure- potentially burn out before it can reach final completion. However all that energy burning? Resources used? That’s going to leave a lasting impact
