What I can't wrap my head around is why this technology is available to everyone? And why for free?!? It would make so much more sense if companies hoarded their AI models for their own personal use (like in the book Neuromancer) or sell their use to other companies at high prices. Currently to get a good commissioned art piece by a real artist costs a lot of money. If these AI companies made the price for ten custom images 80% of that (with the added bonus of getting it immediately), people would still buy it. So why are they missing out on those profits and instead giving this technology for free?
They can't possibly think they're being altruistic, know how many artists' jobs they'll destroy. I don't understand their motivation.
If I read this in a sci fi novel I'd say it's unrealistic and breaks the immersion of the world, but it's happening in real life 😂
