After watching a lot of videos on the topic I have my doubts on the AI freak. I work for an american bank, located in central europe and boy oh boy not only we are far behind with AI but even with automation. And it is a HUGE globally known bank. Automation efforts are ongoing since I joined 10 years ago and with huge corporations, the motion is slow. The shift is of course undeniable but AI can’t and won’t replace 99% of jobs anytime soon, let alone 5 years. The taxi driver example is a great case study on that. Yes, self driving cars are a threat. The nouance missing is the cost difference. Being a taxi driver is not a high paying job, the more east you go, the less they earn. These self driving cars are no competition on markets where the taxi transportation costs are low. It will only serve a certain layer of customers, the rich, who can afford to own a self driving car therefore the taxi won’t even be needed. Unless the cost of these cars and the service they provide are not competitive, the fact that they are automated and AI driven would not make them take away jobs. And that is just one example. There are jobs which can be replaced by AI overnight, and sad to say, mostly tech jobs, who are the same people calling the alarms. Of course they are scared, they will be the first ones to go. Regardless of how long the shift will take, I still encourage people to research the market on what skillset has a long estimated resilience towards this transformation, but take it with a grain of salt, things can change. And encourage your kids to do so as well. Of course I might be wrong here, I am not an expert indeed. I work close to tech, my job is not even close to be replaced because of details I cannot share. I am safe for a while and I have another profession which will be surely resilient so I am good. No, not a plumber😹
