Auto pilot, self driving or whatever you want to call it is one of the worst ideas in an automobile I have ever heard of. I said in the beginning that people will rely on it as a chauffeur and not as a driver assist system like cruise control is. Let's face it. The techies believe in artificial intelligence as a replacement for human beings because they believe they can be their own God but they are and always will be very short of their goal. You said Musk states humans only have two eyes but we use mirrors and turning of the head along with moving our eye balls side to side and up and down. This allows us to act like we have 360 degree vision. I have avoided many accident situations in and out of cars that I have never encountered before but was able to evade and I doubt that AI could have avoided many of them. It is impossible to engineer and program for absolutely every situation. Example; An air liner lost all hydraulic flight controls but 3 pilots working together figured out how to control the aircraft using the differential engine thrust and some other systems to bring it down. Although it was a crash landing, most if not all survived it. And then there is Sully. Computers or AI couldn't have made any of these decisions or work arounds. These systems need to be only assistants, not replacements for human control.
