Isn’t this the plot to Avengers: Age of Ultron? There’s a lot of assumptions and “what if’s” in this piece of fiction. This sounds more like hype than reality, written by the very people who work in the field / industry, so that they can keep extending the hype curve out for another 6 months before it starts on its downward slope. And keep their pockets lined with cash from investors looking to make “a fast buck.” The one thing this has failed to note is that a lot of these AI companies aren’t making any money at all and it’s a huge bubble which is going to burst. People’s pension funds (if they’re investing in all of this) are going to be hit and lose money. This AI craze is the worst fad to have ever been devised. It’s a massive scam to get people to spend money and invest in rubbish, to drive “growth” and build ever more expensive and energy hungry data centres. And to put a load of people out of work (until their bosses realise they will actually be needed because the technology won’t live up to the hype.) It’s the next fad after Web3, NFTs and crypto. And even further back in time - Tulips! 🌷🌷🌷 The BBC is also helping to keep the hype going by repeating this to its massive audience. The authors must be very happy that the BBC is doing the publicity for free! 💰 And just to repeat - this is a bubble and it’s not being scrutinised as it should be. The real impending disaster is going to be financial when the bubble bursts - and it’s going to hit people’s investments and pensions. The BBC should be paying more attention to this impending burst and reporting on that instead - doing proper journalism - instead of commissioning someone to do daft AI videos on YouTube.
