AI will become a tool, like its already a tool and one human can do more work due to that tool. Like making a presentation took hours and now you get a base in minutes that you can then modify to you liking. So it did not replace you but it did do all the "rough job".
Robots are becoming more "universal", like back when I was studying we had like robot arms only to play around with and took ages to "code" it to do a longer task like building a little house from kids blocks. Its movements were very "clumsy" so even 1mm wrong and everything collapsed. So AI has helped here too when you can ask it instead of having to write everything yourself, then you only fine tune.
So maybe they just wished it too fast but the progress we have made in the last 25 years is insane, like we are not far from having "factory sized 3D printers". Someone will push it forward until we get to a 90% automated state of every part of a production chain. At some point someone will push the entire production chain into one system maybe by adding automated transport or moving the production chain closer together..
Still the main thing people miss with the automation. Most often the new technology will not replace the current workforce, it will make hiring the young people with 0 experience into something "not needed". This is why many job offers are like 5-10 year experience and already worked at a position above the entry level.
So my point is that now that less get an entry level job there will be less for the next step and the next. This will force the companies to make sure a smaller workforce can do the same as the former large one that is now retired, thus increasing the automation. So lets say the change is 10% per generation, 3 generations work at the same time so the one going out now had 100% employment, the next one 90%, then 80%, then 70%... at some point the company will either have too little employees or they will have replaced the need with automation. So my point is the disappearing entry jobs will affect the future in a way of "forced automation" until we reach a state where 35% or more of the workforce is unemployed, like there is only so many jobs or services you can provide. Soon the world population will start to drop also and that will effect it even more(their estimate is that at around 10b the drop will start).
In the future much of the companies will "die" and the ones with enough automation will survive or those that were able to survive already now without automation.
