UBI is the only way to offset the labor shift from AI, at least in the near-term.
The companies using AI and robotics are saving millions or billions in worker wages, healthcare, holiday pay, liability insurance, and more. The jobs being replaced are going to push people into extreme poverty. We need massive job core retraining starting in HS. We will need more plumbers, mechanics, electricians, infant and childcare, and other specialists that can’t be replaced by AI and robotics.
UBI and a push for training a new generation of specialists will help immensely with the AI fallout, and the corporations using AI heavily (and power) should be paying a premium tax rate to help cover the costs over the next 5-10 years. They will be saving insane amounts of money and can afford a 40% tax on the AI-replaced wages.
