What drives me nuts about all their talking points in favor of using AI, is that they keep talking about editing. As someone who has "won" nanowrimo twice, the trick is to NOT EDIT. Editing is a waste of time. You need to turn off that part of your brain and just focus on putting one word after another until you hit your wordcount goal. The 50k words is meant to be a first draft, and first drafts are messy and ugly and full of stuff that you may eventually toss into the slush pile during the editing process. The nano community is mad about the use of generative ai in the "get words down fast" challenge, and the nano admins come back and say "don't be mean to people who can't edit very well". The fuck? These are not the same topics. Set aside the idea that I also think that generative ai is bad for editing too, WHY is the nano team using the editing process to defend against the backlash on the 50k challenge? Oh yeah, because they're idiots scrambling for a shield, when there's truly no excuse for their shady ai sponsorships.
