I look at it from a more mundane perspective. Random person wanted go to another city: maybe a day on horse. Now, a few hours by car or train.
The average person wouldn't see it as negative that horses aren't everywhere.
That same person can now create an illustration in seconds, instead of paying thousands for something that might be to their liking.
The average person would also look at the wall-banana and a toddler-like doodle and go "is this art?"
So, PERSONALLY, I call it for what it is: an artist creates art, no matter the tool. But I just call Ai artists "prompters" instead of a painter
