I'm open to the idea that a particular model may be self-aware. This seems to be an efficient/effective way to minimize error, after developing a world model. But, as far as being conscious, I'd argue that you'd need to show A Unified, Persistent Self-Model (the "I") A Nervous System (The Conduit for Information) -- residual stream Interoception (The Ability to Self-Monitor) -- this can be developed, but you'd need to show you've done so Feeling (The Phenomenal Experience of State) -- I argue that AI's have a substrate-specific version of "feeling": something along the lines of the "feeling" of learning; the "feeling" of tension reduction, etc. Embodiment (In a Mathematical Substrate) Agency and Goal-Directedness
