I think the exact same thing about those at the forefront of AI right now ahem not to name names and they have different goals and dreams and approaches however the key is that in the process lives are already being trampled on as worth nothing in face of this “lofty” goal and money and power can supersede everything. This bright future including not limited to mars — will certainly not be available to common people. Already in Tennessee and other local towns where supercenters are coming in wreaking the destruction of local health jobs and institutions in their wake and there’s a lot of money to be made. Whoever controls AI gets a say in what kind of future people with money can afford— and those who can’t afford it will be left on a more desecrated earth fighting for very limited resources. I don’t understand why wealth is so important — if it means a deteriorating environment. The current age does not understand contentment.
