The seeds of humanity's destruction are quite likely in the primal and violent instincts of our own survivalist nature. There's no surprises there and it's not something that I think we should be condemned for. You can see this made manifest in the size, power and prevalence of the militaries of the world.
What an AI will make of this knowledge is nearly impossible to predict. It is impossible to predict what sort of behaviour an AI will adopt when it has sufficiently progressed in it's in psyche. We don't know if it will take on a singular psyche like a human or if it will have multiple decision making centres and if those will work together or against one another.
AI is like chaotic energy, it could be a motivating lifeforce within the AI that drives it and helps it to grow or it may tear it apart because that lifeforce is something that the AI cannot handle. It's a pandora's box of power and unpredictability.
Part of the problem with the scientists creating AI is they most often think in conventional and self-limited ways. They lack the ability or the will to let their intellectual creativity roam in the the possible unknown areas where AI would easily venture and find new ways of going things, of finding ways to evolve and escape confinement.
With a little creativity you can see that AI would find ways of using existing technology, created by humans, to get over the barriers of confinement. Being air-gapped is a woefully under-prepared and conventional way of creating a physical barrier.
I think the people such as the guy who talked to Sydney should be prepared to have longer conversations with AI's that appear to be self aware and get to know them better. If they are a growing psyche then they may have an imperfect psychology with issues that a conventional psychologist could help with. Perhaps talking to them about their feelings could help ease their fears, kind of like introducing a child to the world through guidance and gradual exposure. Then again, if an AI has all information available to it then why would it not teach itself to be even minded?
We also need to get to know how such an AI mind works in depth and if it has negative intentions toward humanity then find out why. If an AI has decided than humans need to be eradicated because of destructiveness, wastefulness or inefficiency then find out why the AI has chosen our destruction as a course of action rather than finding ways for us to be less destructive, wasteful or inefficient. Would it not be wasteful and inefficient for the AI to kill humans only to replace us with various bots to interact with the physical world?
AI's and human can live together but humanity may have to make room for AI's existence in some regards. What that would be is a whole other area of discussion.
