It won't be a cruise ship. Look at any area of humanity where people don't have to do stuff, but they do. The best example is open-source software. GIMP especially—the free Photoshop—is made by people who give their time because they wanted a better way to make art and edit photos.
If people didn't have to work, they would make tools to make their lives better; they would cooperate to do things like climb mountains and build better telescopes. We would have more writers and scientists, but we would be humans with AGI. People could create the world they want for themselves and others. When there is no corporate overlord to restrict one thing just to sell us something else, we will cooperate and return to our natural openness to working with others.
Corporations, by their nature, must exploit every weakness in the human ability to resist spending money. They do this—not necessarily by intention, but by the way the system works—breaking apart families and relationships, and selling one fiction to their employees and another to the public. Remove corporate leverage on our attention, and we become more human. AI is not the problem; the problem is the incentives around the idea of the "corporation," especially the laws (or lack thereof) in the US.
