A big problem is that a lot of AI art online is "prompting", which not only looks very generic, but also doesn't have any consistency. What a lot of people don't realize is that there are plenty of techniques around inpainting and ControlNet that are more like "guided AI art", which people can't spot and plenty of artists are already using without their followers even noticing. It's definitely more of a gray area. I've trained LoRa's on my own art style and posted things without people realizing it's AI art. I've got thousands of sketches from my twenties I've run through these models and the results are pretty impressive and at least have an artistic consistency. The second that becomes more mainstream the "slop era" will probably die off.
