"Survival of the fittest," is the maxim for life forms in nature. And, though effective, it's never been pretty. A lot of species have fallen by the wayside. "Self preservation" has emerged as the motto guiding artificial intelligence within culture. Not so different, really. Any mutations or iterations will be selected by utility within a particular domain. Evolution will not be denied. Devil take the hindmost. Humans survived because they were ruthless. Why would we expect our cultural offspring to be any different?
