I think part of the problem as to why this conversation rarely moves forward is cause he's kinda right at first, AI generators are in fact tools akin to a brush or camera, it's just SIGNIFICANTLY easier to learn and use, essentially allowing someone to entirely skip the process of actually becoming an artist, so he ends up with this backbone to create his whole argument for it that he can keep falling back on and when people refuse to accept that the backbone is in fact a truth it clearly makes him feel like he has ground to stand on. The real problems are how he's trying to claim ownership of something created for him using prompts he entered into a machine, as well as the fact he thinks that "art" is equivalent to the work of actual artists and entered it into a competition. Even when we accept his arguments that AI generators are just tools, neither of those things become acceptable. Not only does that tool do the creation itself and spit something out by specifically taking bits and pieces from other people's art (with ambiguous consent at best), which should mean it's obvious he can't claim any level of ownership over it as all he actually made was lines of prompt, but there have always been separations in any competitive world when it comes to the tools used, like you won't see a slalom skier competing in a race against snowboarders, the speeds a skier can hit make the competition unfair so they separate them into their own races and make courses designed for each specifically. Art can be boiled down to the same thing, so again even if you accept his stance that AI generators are just tools, they still have no right competing against actual artists who use brush or camera. No, I think he just thought he found a money making glitch with how easy it was to make the AI generator make his art for him and now he's still just scrambling to try and make it a reality for himself. I just think it's important to not dismiss everything he says out of pocket cause then he has a legit argument to make to muddy the waters, even if it is ultimately a bad argument.
