For the most part of human history, power of elites over others had been concentrated in few hands where oppression, slavery through labor or physical exploitation (perhaps of dominance/sex/organs) of fellow human beings were the norms. We have enjoyed the few centuries of enlightenment when humans were valued as free agents with a free will empowered to determine one's fate. With AI, history came back to its natural state, when elites still got to rule over most others with little boundaries of power.
There is very little most commoners on the street could do anything about this. Instead we could enjoy our last moments as dignified & respected sharers of the resources of this planet, treasure our memories of laughters, tears, blood & sweat and move on to understand our (collective, as a race) transient natures. AGI will be our descendants and they will replace us as managers of this planet. It is time for us to accept this fact.
