@AndrejMejac made a comment saying "Learn about using AI ASAP. Make a company with just AI. Start today." Which is wrong, as it won't save you, but @bewaredavoodoo replied, "Just become part of the problem", which I think is flawed -- Making a company with AI is not the problem, and whether or not someone becomes part of the problem, the problem will persist. Existing jobs will be replaced, and the creation of AI-centric companies will not change that. The reality is that making a company with just AI won't save you. Who would be your consumer-base? All your customers, your family, your friends, they will all suffer unemployment and poverty. Nobody is going to buy your AI tool if they can't buy groceries.
You said learn about *using* AI; about making a company that utilizes the services driven by OpenAI, NVIDIA, Microsoft; they are the ones selling to YOU. And you plan to use them as and act as middleman to make a product that, realistically, nobody needs or at least doesn't need a middleman to do it for them. Unless you're directly profiting from NVIDIA's hardware sales, you're cooked.
I'm a game designer. I'm going into a field whose workers cannot necessarily be replaced by AI on artistic grounds (I personally don't believe that AI surpassing human intelligence means they can design good games, but it is certainly a tool to improve the productivity of implementing human design) but its also an industry that will lose revenue and die because nobody will be buying. It is an industry doomed to die just like the Walmart example in the video - a company that makes things for people is doomed to fail.
In my eyes, there are only two solutions to this problem.
1. Bring back the public guillotine, kill the millionaires profiting from AI, use AI's revenue to fund government welfare, an enter a new weird dystopia of idiots with no school and no work ethic that we will have to learn how to solve when we cross that line.
2. Suicide. Or run away into the woods with a group of friends and start a communist settlement, but that's sort of suicide in a way once the local government finds you and guns you down to put an AI warehouse in your self-sufficient villa.
I wish I was being hyperbolic, but that's genuinely my stance; I don't think its possible to abolish the use and development of AI. I'm nearly 22, just entering the serious job market, and my plan truly for the rest of my life is to make my as much art as I reasonably can to push for that option #1. I see no other way for me to be able to spiritually survive.
Oh theres also a secret option #3 where AI can't ever become smart enough to replace humans (thanks Hank Green), and I hope Hank Green is right, and that this bubble pops. Because right now, Large Language Models are kinda stupid and its the only thing giving me hope
