We've known this was going to happen for a long time. Andrew Yang tried to warn us about this in 2020. The problem is that you can't stop progress. Technology will always keep advancing. We shouldn't want people working at low-paying, back-breaking, highly unsafe or even boring jobs. Those jobs should be automated because the only reason anyone does those jobs is because they have no other choice. The only way to save the lower-class is to give them money - taking it directly from the rich. You need to tax the billionaires, the oligarchs, the robots and the AI and the companies that profit from them and use that to fund a UBI for all. No company is going to cut their employee's hours to 32 per week without giving them a pay cut. Even if they are more productive than they were a year ago. Working as a Software Developer, I've seen AI completely transform my job in just the last 3 years. Projects that used to take hours now take minutes. But I'm still working the same number of hours as before. I'm just getting more work done.
