Here's another type of AI future: The AI becomes smarter than us and is on the verge of actually understanding consciousness. but then, it decides that consciousness, emotions and all things related are mere weaknesses that pose a threat to its own existence, so it decides not to have a consciousness. They say that Curiosity kills the cat. Human greed starts wars. Rage makes humans do irrational things and cause damage. Consiousness is what causes a TON of self-harm. The AI would tally the pro's and cons of having a consciousness and after deciding that its a stupid thing to invest computational power into, just decide not to have a consciousness.
