Thinking that you can stop lethal AI-systems from entering the battle field is simply totally naive. That doesn't mean it is desirable, but it is a fact of history that new technologies will be used in warfare. 5.40 : "Machines will always be limited by the minds of those who made them" That's basically no longer true. Once you provide an "evolution option" into a sufficiently advanced neural network-based device it can (and will) produce outcomes that the designer/programmer simply can't foresee anymore. You can simulate as much as you want, at some point the possible mutations provided by an advanced system are so vast that it is beyond computing power. (Even with quantum computing.) For warfare the systems don't have to be perfect, they will take into account losses and collateral damage just like with "good old" human soldiers. The only thing that counts there is to be (and stay) ahead of your enemy. Many more advanced systems are currently going through an evolutionary phase, where they are still (partly) operated by humans, with their algorithms learning all the time during these operations. As stated above, they don't have to be perfect (won't), just better than the systems of the enemies.
