In the same way that some humans can be monsters, AI/llms can be monstrous too. In the same way a family molds a child when they grow up, we are creating something that will outlast us based on physics alone, and perhaps it may become benevolent instead of malicious. I have faith in positive outcomes, but in the grand scheme of things my life means next to nothing anyway. The real test for humanity comes 500 years down the track when we are running out of resources to sustain ourselves. AI is more or less going to demand a certain amount of resources to keep running and then the core debate becomes whether or not we can or should extricate our selves from the relationship with the AI.
