Why is there an assumption even that “AI” will eventually revolutionize everything? Training best-next-word prediction models at massive scale is surprisingly effective at some simple tasks, but the model struggles at nearly everything remotely complex in daily work, and there’s no evidence that’s changing.
Yes, it took a revolutionary paper to kickstart modern ML, but those kinds of realizations aren’t guaranteed. Much of modern science in many fields is about incremental improvements after the low hanging fruit has been picked.
