4:00 This argument doesn’t make any sense to me. Focusing on the training data aspect is problematic. I can train a human artist on copyrighted text and images. That’s part of how writers and artists learn. If I am inspired by a particular art or writing style and then create a work that shows clear inspiration, that’s not a copyright issue. If a writer invents a new word or use of a word and that becomes part of the lexicon and gets included in a Dictionary I later use to inform my writing, that’s not a copyright issue.
I get where people are coming from but we have to look at this from a workable perspective. You cannot judge that reading a bunch of information or training on a bunch of images is somehow something that needs to be protected under copyright or you’re going to break the whole human system along with AI.
