I try to talk to my friends about this risk.
It's like I've been listening climate scientist for years, and they recently started saying things like "There's not point in planning more then a couple years ahead, because we're obviously all going to be dead by then."
And then I go try to tell my friends this and they say "pst. Obviously carbon dioxide doesn't exist. Once we finish burning this oil we'll live in Luxury Gay Space Communism"
I just feel so hopeless that we'll fix this. We just have too many crises right now.
In more conspiratorial thoughts (that I don't endorse) it occurs to me that the current administration is a great way for a secret AI actor to thwart efforts to control AI.
