The real tell if AI "art" is really art is artistic analysis. If it's actual art, then we should be able to critique it in the same way we would actual art. Next time you see AI "art", think about if you could ask the artist: "Why did you decide on this pose?" "What made you go with this color on the shirt?" "What inspired the shape of this building in the background?" "Why did you choose this brush texture, and what does that convey?" "What does this perspective represent?" "How did you balance the emotions to capture that expression on their face, and what subtler emotions are hiding beneath their face?" Questions like this can't be answered with AI art because they didn't MAKE any of those decisions. Art is a million little decisions, and every one of them has intentionality. Every choice serves an artistic intent. If you just wrote a sentence and then someone (or something) else made those decisions FOR you, then you simply weren't the artist of that work. Doing this would be the equivalent of DMing another artist and telling them what you want, having them make the art for you, and then going around saying "wow guys, I'm such an incredible artist. Check out this art that *I* made." Except it's even worse because you are: 1. not commissioning actual existing artists who need the money, 2. using a technology that was built off of the backs of millions of hard-working artists without their consent, and 3. ignoring all of the environmental downsides of this mass adoption of AI. Oh, and if any AI "artist" wants to come at me in the comments, just remember that me writing this comment required more effort, passion, and artistic intent than any AI art you have ever "made". Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go work on another passion project for the next year and a half and love every second of it.
