The title of this video should have been "Cars and bad roads have destroyed cities. Self-driving cars will make that worse." - Why do you uncritically repeat the talking points of the self-driving car companies? - 3:44 "Now of course, this technology will inevitably get better. But nobody knows how long it will take to sort out the long-tail of rare occurrences that a self-driving car will encounter in a busy city." How much better will it get? The video shows there are basic problems still being encountered in the trials which operate in very well mapped test zones. - 3:55 "And as any experienced project manager will tell you, the first 90% of a project takes 90% of the time. And the last 10 percent of the project, will take the other 90%." This is completely abstract until we know what point are we at. Is it 90%? 50%? How can we tell until the project is finished and there promises of self driving advocates have proved completely unreliable? - 0:23 "So self-driving cars are here today." but "here" only equals San Franscisco and Phoenix. Then you tell us Cruze admits a human has to intervene to drive driver has to intervene very 5 miles ... so they aren't "here" in any real meaning of the world. There is a trial with lots of bugs. Trials can fail. They haven't proved themselves. There are only a few other cities with trials and none are above the snow line. - In what industry to the marketing departments decide financial liability? While capitalism finds the working class are expendable, what will happen when the child of a millionaire is killed by an autonomous vehicle at a pedestrian crossing? - What are the injuries and fatalities per million miles of self driving versus driven cars? Is there no data? - Concorde shows that just because a transport technology is practicable doesn't mean it is practical or economically and socially viable. - $160 billion invested in self-driving. How much of that has been written off? Is the rest of Capital going to allow the self-driving car industry to impose its costs on them? (They will agree, naturally, that the cost should be borne by workers.) That's my whinge. Cheers.
