AI is just a tool, like a pencil. The problem starts when people use it to generate something that looks a lot like someone else's original work, and then try to use it commercially. If a judge decides that the AI made an exact copy, not just something that looks similar, then there's a copyright issue. But let's be real, the problem isn't with the AI itself, it's with people who use it to rip off copyrighted content and make money from it. The artists or companies who own the original content should go after the people who are doing the infringing, not the tool. It's pretty stupid to sue a pencil maker just because someone used their pencil to draw a copy of something they didn't own. AI is going to keep getting better and better, and there will always be some buthurt artists who think it's "stealing" from them. But if that were really the case, wouldn't they have already made a fortune suing tech companies? The thing is, the data used to train these models is out there for anyone to use, so if you're an artist who feels like you're at a disadvantage, maybe instead of being buthurt about it, you could use that same data to improve your own skills. I don't think someone who uses AI tools is automatically an artist, but that's another topic anyway.
