I think what needs to happen to stop these vile practices would be to make the scammers regret their actions for the rest of their lives by forcing them to pay large annual fines to pay a huge percentage of a convention's costs, so that real artists can rent booths for much less. It's important that the public be made aware of what's going on and how to tell real art from AI generated. Where I come from in Europe, AI art is considered grey zone material and most major businesses won't touch it, due to lack of ethics and official trademark branding, which is easy to copy and paste.
