One major issue with this line of reasoning is that rich people spend a smaller portion of their income compared to poorer people, so if automation happened quickly then it would act to depress demand reducing overall income earned [including that for richer people], so it would be in their interest to increase welfare payouts to keep consumption up, which wouldn't need to be financed through extra taxes due to the demand reduction functioning similarly to a recession. Though this would be an issue if the government decided not do this. The other option [which currently seems more likely] is if automation happens more slowly then prices would have time to adjust and demand wouldn't be an issue. However in this scenario there would be time for people to switch to jobs that haven't been automated yet which would pay a higher wage due to increased productivity in other/adjacent sectors due to automation which would allow them to build up greater wealth/capital ownership.Though job regime changes tend to leave some people behind in either permanent unemployment or moving to lower skill jobs that pay less so it is likely that some would still be left with no wealth by the time full automation happens. Overall the government has a number of opportunities to respond to the situation [enabling better job switching, increasing wealth formation at lower income levels, increasing welfare payouts], in which case its response would dictate the ultimate outcome
