I can fully understand you, but please let me elaborate what speaks IMHO for AI art: 1) As you mentioned art doesn't pop out of a vacuum, but is made from looking at many other art pieces and sources of inspiration. While now AI art is doing it mostly on a crude level, when I look at AI texts, I can see that it will soon become of a quality indistinguishable from humans and AI also makes similar mistakes to humans, which is kinda creepy... 2) AI art can be used productively, by e.g. providing examples, for instance when asking how an arte nouveau living room would differ from a jugendstil living room. You could write a lot of text about it, but an example makes things understandable a lot faster. I agree however that AI makes too many mistakes at least for now. 3) What if someone makes a Youtube video focussed on music and he can't afford to pay an artist? Thumbnails and backgrounds are essential for advertiser revenue! AI allows people with few financial means to compete with big companies! 4) What if you really like something, but aren't that great at drawing it? You could for instance ask AI to draw a specific scene in the style of an artist you like and then attempt to redraw it. You might cringe at that, but let's be real: if you learn an instrument, you probably will play songs you like first before making your own compositions... In my case, I cannot draw faces from memory. I need always the face I want to draw in front of me, unless I want to draw cartoons. That I could do from memory, but sadly nothing more. BTW: what fascinates me about AI-art is how it can create stunning visuals and striking lighting, but falls flat once you zoom in... It's also better at recreating images of historic figures or doing images of what anime characters would look like in real life and for some reason it appears to be spot on and I have no idea how you could do it without AI. Yes, it's definitely possible, but even though I can draw, I wouldn't be able to do it!
