If we wanna bring the portrait and photography industries into this, how about this: to the ai tech bros, would you have walked out of an art studio with a portrait painted for you by someone else, and immediately go yelling to the streets "I am the artist of this painting"? Would you have done effectively the same having someone take professional level photography for you, and then yelling that you were the photographer? I don't get my commission art done by a friend of mine and then go around telling my friends how impressive it was that I was clearly the artist. I may have given my friend the descriptions and reference images I wanted to be used in the creation of the art, but I would not dare to call myself the artist in that scenario, because I clearly was not. Now, going off that, you do not take a bunch of different artists' work without their permission, shove it into a software incapable of an original thought, give it a couple words, and then credit yourself for what comes out of it. You had the absolute least contribution to that thing you call art of anyone involved. The second we start recognizing ai to have the equivalent conscious, then we can maybe start saying that the ai itself is the artist of something that is truly art, but until then, the closest thing to an artist of the pictures that ai software pumps out is the artists whose work you shoved into it without their permission that it used.
