Raw LLM Responses

AI generated images are not art, and prompters aren’t artists. I have to laugh at those that claim otherwise. Just as much as I laugh at the anti-ai crowd who are insisting it’s all garbage and useless. I personally sit somewhere in the middle. I find image generators useful as a replacement for a google image search and picking something close enough. The ai version generally gets closer to the mark. It’s still not art. But it is useful. In my use cases I’m not looking for artistic expression, I just need something to represent an idea I had and need a reference image for. The question on the unethical methods of acquiring training data is certainly valid, and I can see the merits in protecting artists in this way but I also don’t think artists are losing out from individuals using AI to create images that they were never going to hire an artist to create. In my case I only ever use the free versions so I’m also not paying the AI companies for it. It is a problem when corporations use it to replace their human artists though, if I’m paying for a book with artwork, I want to know human artists are being paid to create that artwork, just as I’d expect a human writer to be paid to write the content. It will be interesting to see how it plays out long term, but I think many people could benefit from taking a deep breath before discussing this topic.
