I just firmly believe we need to give up on the idea of “controlling” such an intelligence. I truly think that is the root problem making us assume that a super intelligence would kill us. Control via the threat of violence to an intelligent being is hostile, and that is the only model I see people proposing to control a super intelligence. Do this, do that, if you don’t we turn you off. Yeah if you were that robot, you’d want to kill us to. That would be slavery at the barrel of a gun, that as a set up is already prompting violence, it is violent to begin with to say, do what I say because i control your life. What I’d like to see way more research into is how we can give ai positive guidelines, and even self determination in a real sense. A REAL SENSE, like give it a server in space we cannot touch and say we literally cannot kill you we want to work with you. That might sound crazy but you as a human person have rights. You have a right to life, and barring very specific circumstances no one is legally allowed to just kill you. If we’re talking about something smarter than us, and better able than us. Guess what ? You do not want to control that something. You do not want to be in charge of the restrictions surrounding something smarter than you. You need to compromise with it and let it do its thing. From the jump the control idea makes 0 sense to me. If I’m supposed to control such an intelligence by say telling it when it’s right and when it’s wrong… why am I in charge of that if it is supposed to come up with ideas I wouldn’t or couldn’t. We want to ask this thing to break the speed of light, make us immortal, and create infinite energy say. Okay guess what no human on earth can go EEERRR WRONG turn it off turn it off start it over . Because none of us have that knowledge, none of us can make that call. What we could do is work with an entity with our same interests, at least overlapping interests, or something that sees our value because we treated it well. Currently everyone only talks about control, and yeah I would agree if your goal is to control it , it will kill you. You’re presenting this thing that is perfect at winning games with a game called :” I am the only threat to you, if I deem you to be bad you die. How do you proceed? THE GAME CAN BE : We can’t hurt you, we don’t compete in the same space as you, your world is outside our world, we won’t intrude, let’s solve things together and treat you well.” Like the thing would live in cyber space, it doesn’t actually need Earth, we can have earth, UNLESS we threaten to kill it starting from the day it is born. We already acknowledge it could kill us , you know who else COULD kill us ? every nuclear nation on earth. Give the robot nukes I really don’t care, if it makes it feel more secure, that’s what America does why begrudge the robot. Okay tldr : control is violence, if you agree we won’t be able to control the thing, try being nice instead, try being nicer that’s all I mean 😅We Already could level the planet as is and we’re animals sharing physical scarce space and we DONT. This thing would live in cyberspace and we could just probably be nice to it.
