People having the Ai visualize what they want is helpful for the artist and cuts down commission time perhaps dramatically in some cases. Also helps the commissioner find the right look without having to imagine what the art would look like with all the pieces together.
SO that's one thing AI reference is good for especially for picky people. If picky people are an artists worse nightmare, 2nd to Ai, I can see why.
