@ 5:40 In the 50s and 60s, a Dr. Calhoun created what were called "rat utopias." A small group of rats were put in a large space with unlimited food, water and shelter (and sex). These experiments aimed to observe how the rats would behave in a seemingly ideal living condition without the pressures of predators or resource scarcity. Long story short... for awhile, things were great. But in all cases, as the rat populations grew significantly larger, without any stress, "social disfunction" began to overwhelm the colonies (fights to the death over seemingly nothing, psychotic behavior, cannibalism, etc.) until the colonies crashed (long before the environmental limits were reached) and in every case, the rats died off to the last rat. All because they had every need taken care of without any effort of their own. Sound familiar... just sayin.
