Engineering kind of brought this on itself. In the 2000s we started seeing offshoring and trained our replacements leading to mass layoffs. Then we all got excited about ai and started using it for our work. All we did is train our replacements again. It will be a bloodbath and then settle down again. You have to find a niche to specialize in and move into consulting where the companies will turn when the ai tooling can’t do the job well enough. Specifically companies and industries without the training data for AI to leverage currently.
