I have to use Telegram quite frequently as a journalist who covers Ukraine and Russia and I just want to make a couple notes regarding the way telegram functions
First, I’ve actually seen very similar bots advertised by Russian telegram accounts. Ironically, sometimes these telegram accounts would advertise them or sometimes these bots would advertise themselves in the comments of prominent Russian or Ukrainian language telegram channels.
Second, it should be noted that if you purchase telegram, premium, their is an option for automatic translation. Thus it’s very possible that foreigners were present in these chats, especially if they have this premium function. The translator is fantastic if you need to telegram for genuine, journalistic work, but obviously opens up these types of exploitative chat rooms for the world to see.
