Look at the AI animation's eyes compared to Mavis while they're talking. The AI character doesn't have any expression in them they barely move.
People express their feelings with their whole face, not just their eyebrows and sides of their mouths and animators know how important that is when making a character.
You'll also notice that Mavis moves her lips more than just opening and closing her mouth, even Chinese 3D animations move their lips more and their language has little to no letters/words that need lip movement when speaking.
